Trauma
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
by Maya Angelou
When we think about trauma, we often think about an event or experience that would be upsetting to almost any person. One that involves intense feelings of fear, helplessness, loss of control and/or terror. The event or experience is usually felt as life-threatening and is so stressful that it overwhelms one’s ability to cope. Examples of such traumas can include a natural disaster, abuse, illness, or being the victim of a crime. Many people are also seriously impacted by “smaller” events that they experience as personally disturbing. Ones that might not be seen as life-threatening, but experienced as distressing and traumatic. Almost every person has experienced trauma, for some it has been one large event while for others it has been multiple smaller disturbing events. Traumas, big and small, can get stuck in our brains and result in symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, and flashbacks. No matter what symptoms you may be experiencing, they can negatively impact your day to day life. Your experience of symptoms, resulting from the traumas in your life, can cause a great deal of suffering. My goal as a therapist is to help you heal from your suffering. Most every person in this world is suffering in one way or another. If you are ready to begin healing from your suffering, I hope you will reach out today.
